the near future. For example, more instructional hours during practical skills training are
required by some programs, specifically health professions and trades and industry. These
exceptions do not fit well within the confines of this policy.
As part of the policy, faculty also receive credit for various activities at EITC. These activities
range from committee service, program coordination responsibilities, accreditation duties,
curriculum development, professional activities and community service. In general, FT faculty
are expected to carry a course load of 15 credits, maintain office hours, participate in
committees and other college activities related to their positions.
2.B.6 Faculty Evaluations
All faculty members are evaluated in a regular, systematic, substantive, and collegial manner in
accordance with Policy 111 in the
Policy and Procedures Manual
(see jump-drive). Full time
faculty members are evaluated by three different instruments that have the common focus to
improve instruction. They are evaluated yearly by immediate supervisors. This instrument
highlights a faculty member’s service to the college and the community. It also documents
faculty professional development and fulfillment of goals set the previous year.
Students have the opportunity to evaluate instructors each semester. The supervisor and the
instructor each pick one class to be evaluated during the semester.
A third tier of evaluations is done by instructional peers. This evaluation is done every three
years for each full-time instructor. Peer evaluators are trained and held accountable for the
assignments they are given. Faculty strongly feels that this evaluation is for educator to
educator and not part of the administrative evaluation.
Finally, division managers observe/evaluate classroom instruction for both full-time and adjunct
faculty every three years. This evaluation/observation requires a conversation both prior to
and after the actual classroom visit in order to first address concerns and then to debrief with
any relevant observations.
Where areas for improvement are identified, the institution works with the faculty member to
develop and implement a plan to address areas of concern.
