Staff and faculty acknowledge their responsibilities for student safety. Staff members in
maintenance, custodial, and information technology have knowledge of all campus buildings
and are responsible for identifying, reporting and, as appropriate, correcting safety deficiencies.
In an emergency which requires building checks or evacuation, these individuals “sweep” the
buildings to clear them of personnel and report results directly to the Incident Commander.
Primary responsibility for evacuation of students rests with the instructors, who are aware of
egress routes (posted in all classrooms) and assembly areas. Each classroom and each staff and
faculty member has an abbreviated list of items to consider for emergency purposes. Training
on this checklist was most recently done at in-service training in January. As a professional-
technical college, EITC conducts classes from time-to-time at sites remote from the campus.
These sites are typically in office complexes or meeting rooms where adequate security can be
provided by local law enforcement personnel. Because the instruction is typically short
duration and limited in scope and participation, this level of security is considered adequate.
2.D.3 Recruitment, Admission and Matriculation
EITC employs a full-time career placement and campus recruiting coordinator and two full-time
academic counselors, one specifically dedicated to assisting students in the health professions,
the largest instructional division on campus. The Student Services team provides the essential
support services to applicants and students as they navigate their way from initial interest in
the college to successfully reaching their goals.
Recruitment efforts consist of college fairs,
career fairs, and high school visits. Admissions counselors advise new students on
requirements of programs as well as assist the applicant in evaluating how their skill sets and
aspirations match with their educational goal. The admission counselors discuss program
course requirements from the beginning semester through completion.
When school is in session, prospective students who have completed the application process,
meet with the program manager from their area of study to determine first semester courses
prior to orientation. This process is especially helpful for spring entrance to transition the
student who would normally be “off-track.” Once enrolled in a program of study, the students
are provided assistance by faculty advisors who are assigned to students according to program.
Orientation is split into online and in-person segments. Students first complete the online
portion where they receive an introduction to the college, information regarding academic
standards and deadlines, campus resources, and financial aid.
Students then attend an in-person orientation led by the admission counselors and assistant
registrar where they receive access to the computer system, set up their on-campus email
account and enroll themselves into courses using the computer-based registration platform,
“Colleague.” The web advisor function of the registration software allows the student to access
course schedules and register for sections of courses. This system also allows the student to
run a graduation audit in order to identify courses that are yet to be completed to satisfy
graduation requirements.
