Information for Parents
The CEI Early College Program offers high school students access to a variety of college-level opportunities. Options are often referred to as dual credit, dual enrollment or concurrent enrollment. The following rules apply to participation in the program. Additional details are found here.
- Eligibility – Students must meet GPA requirements based on high school grade level. The rules listed below apply to general program participation. Individual high schools or specific programs may have additions rules and/or restrictions.
- 9th-10th grade students
- 3.0 high school GPA required to participate
- Can take classes taught at a high school location or through IDLA
- 11th -12th grade students
- 2.7 GPA high school GPA recommended
- Can take classes taught at a high school location, IDLA, on directly through CEI.
- Students must be 16 years old by the first day of class to take a course at the college campus or directly through CEI online.
- 9th-10th grade students
- Course Locations - Students can take dual credit classes at a participating high school, online, or at the CEI college campus as long as all eligibility and prerequisite requirements are met.
- Registration – It is the student’s responsibility to register for CEI dual credit classes through https://cei.dualenroll.com by the deadlines applicable to course type. It is also their responsibility meet all college deadlines that apply to course type. This includes dropping or withdrawing from a course if they no longer with to receive college credit or if their schedule/status in the high school class changes.
- Coursework – Dual credit courses are more rigorous and academically challenging than traditional high school courses. Regardless of instructional location or modality, course content, materials, and curriculum are the same for Early College students as for all students at CEI. College coursework may contain mature topics and content that will not be waived for Early College participants. Students are expected to follow college rules and adhere to college policies related to their course.
- Grades – The grade(s) earned for Early College course(s) will be recorded as a permanent part of the student’s post-secondary academic record and may affect the student’s eligibility for future financial aid. Grading scales and deadlines are set by CEI. Per state statute, if Advanced Opportunities is used to pay tuition for a course, the final grade will be recorded on both the college and high school transcript.
- Credits & Transfer – Credits earned under this program will be applicable toward a degree at CEI and are generally transferrable to other colleges and universities. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure the course(s) taken are transferrable and applicable to the program and college/university they will be attending after high school. Academic advisement is available to students through the Early College Office.
- Cost – Most students in Idaho are eligible for tuition assistance through the Idaho Advanced Opportunities Program.
- TUITION: CEI charges $75/credit to high school age students. The Idaho Advanced Opportunities Program funds $75/credit making dual credit tuition free for most students.
- FEES: CEI does not charge fees for dual credit courses at a high school location. Minimal fees are charged for students taking classes directly from CEI (online or in-person).
- Fees, textbooks, and any tuition amounts not covered by Advanced Opportunities are the responsibility of the student. Financial obligations are billed to the student account. Any outstanding charges not paid by the student or a 3rd party, such as Advanced Opportunities, will result in a hold being placed on the student account. Holds can restrict future enrollment and access to official college documentation such as transcripts.
- Access to Student Support Services – Once the student is enrolled with CEI as an Early College student, they will have full access to support services. Students can use academic support services such as, tutoring, the library, and academic advisement. Early College students can be issued an ID card and will have access to their records through a college provided student portal. Students will be issued a CEI college email account upon enrollment.
- Student Accessibility Services– Students with a disability are welcome to participate in CEI Early College Programs if they meet eligibility requirements. Educational accommodations are different in college and students with a disability, 504, or IEP should contact the CEI Student Accessibility Services coordinator to establish accommodations for CEI classes.
- FERPA Privacy Notice - College of Eastern Idaho is required by federal law to keep student records confidential regardless of age. Without express permission, we cannot share student records with anyone but the student or an educational partner. If a student wishes to allow CEI to disclose records to a third party, the student must submit a “Release of Information Form” to CEI and show a government-issued ID.
