CEI Celebrates First Adult Detention Academy Graduation
October 26, 2026
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — College of Eastern Idaho (CEI) celebrated the graduation of its first Adult Detention Academy last week, preparing eight recruits to serve with the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office and expanding local training opportunities for law enforcement agencies.
The graduates completed seven weeks of instruction, including approximately 235 contact hours of specialized training. The program combines foundational knowledge and practical training to prepare recruits for responsibilities in adult detention facilities.
This is the fourth academy completed through the CEI Law Enforcement Training Academy, following two Patrol Academies and one Emergency Communications Officer Academy. The addition of adult detention training gives regional agencies another option to prepare personnel close to home while reducing travel costs.
“Graduating our first Adult Detention Academy is an exciting milestone for CEI and our regional law enforcement partners,” said Rebecca Killion, Director of Programs at Workforce Training and Continuing Education. “By expanding access to specialized training right here in eastern Idaho, we are helping agencies develop their workforce while creating new opportunities for individuals interested in serving their communities.”
Two awards were presented during the ceremony. The Leadership Award recognized a recruit who demonstrated exceptional leadership throughout the academy, both formally and informally. The Academic Excellence Award honored a recruit for outstanding academic achievement during the training program.
The CEI Law Enforcement Training Academy is accredited by Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) and offers training pathways in patrol, emergency communications and adult detention.
Applications are now being accepted for the next Adult Detention Academy, scheduled to begin in February 2027. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. CEI has also received approval to accept self-sponsored applicants. The approval process for these applicants may take up to six months, so interested individuals are encouraged to begin now.
