2026: NEC Code Change

This 8-hour, in-person course offers a comprehensive review of the 2026 National Electrical Code (NEC) updates. Designed for Journeymen and Master Journeymen electricians, the course provides detailed instruction on the most recent code changes and their impact on electrical installations. An experienced instructor will highlight key revisions, discuss significant differences from previous editions, and explain what these changes mean for current industry practices. Upon completion, participants will be better prepared to apply the updated NEC requirements in the electrical field with confidence and compliance.

Learning Outcomes -

  • By the end of this course, participants will be equipped to explain some of the most relevant changes to the NEC for 2026
    • Residential Load Calculations (Article 120): General lighting and receptacle load calculations for dwelling units are reduced from 3 V A/ft2 to 2 V A/ft2
    • Emergency Disconnects (Section 230.70): Service disconnects for one- and two-family dwellings must be located outdoors and in a readily accessible location, serving as the emergency disconnect.
    • Limited Energy Systems (Chapter 7): A major overhaul consolidates low-voltage systems (30V or less). New Articles 720-750 cover wiring, power sources, and cables, removing these from Articles 300 and 800.
    • Island/Peninsula Receptacles (210.52(C)(4)): New, specific rules prohibit certain, often used, receptacle locations on base cabinets to improve safety.
    • Surge Protection (215.18, 230.67): Feeder surge protection is expanded to include bedrooms and sleeping quarters in various facilities.

Certification -

Upon successful completion of this course, students will receive a Certificate of Completion that can be used as a CEU in States other than Idaho. Idaho no longer requires Electrical Journeyman to complete CEU’s.
