Course Overview

This one-day course provides comprehensive training in Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers and other medical professionals. Through instructor-led demonstrations, hands-on practice, and skills evaluation, participants will gain the knowledge and confidence needed to respond to cardiac, breathing, and choking emergencies in both adult and pediatric patients. Students will leave the course prepared to provide high-quality CPR and emergency care in healthcare settings.

Learning Outcomes

  • Respond to choking emergencies and airway obstructions
  • Utilize AEDs and barrier devices safely and effectively

Certification

Upon successful completion of this course, students will earn a Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider certification through the American Heart Association. Certification is valid for two years and meets the CPR certification requirement for programs within the Health Professions Division at CEI, including the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS COURSE?

Participants must register prior to the start of class. Registration closes at the end of the business day on Friday preceding the scheduled class date. Classes are subject to minimum enrollment requirements and may be canceled if sufficient registrations are not received. If you need BLS certification for employment, program admission, or other requirements, we strongly encourage registering as early as possible to secure your seat and help ensure the class runs as scheduled.

No previous CPR experience is required.

HOW WILL I RECEIVE MY CERTIFICATION CARD?

Certifications for this class are issued through the American Heart Association and are valid for two years. Students who successfully complete the course will receive an email with a link to access their eCard through the AHA website.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU OFFER THIS CLASS?

CPR classes are offered regularly throughout the year. Classes are held on Mondays from 9am to 2pm at the Professional Development Center (240 Technology Dr), excluding holidays and campus closures. Basic Life Support (BLS) classes are scheduled in alignment with Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program registration periods to help students meet program requirements.

HOW MUCH DOES THIS COURSE COST?

Tuition for this course is $105.00, which includes the required course manual and certification card.

IS THERE FUNDING AVAILABLE FOR THIS COURSE?

Yes. BLS CPR may be covered through Idaho Launch when taken as part of an approved training bundle with our CNA or Phlebotomy Technician programs. Funding eligibility requirements apply. For more information, visit https://launch.idaho.gov/

IS THERE A HYBRID OPTION AVAILABLE?

No. This course requires in-person attendance due to the hands-on skills assessment and certification requirements.

IS THERE AN AGE REQUIREMENT?

Students must be 16 years of age or older to enroll in this course. Participants should also be able to meet the physical requirements to perform CPR skills and meet any age requirements associated with their educational program or employer.

WHAT IS THE ATTENDANCE POLICY?

Because certification requires successful completion of all course components, students must attend the entire class session. Late arrivals, early departures, or missed course content may result in the inability to receive certification.

IS THIS COURSE ACCEPTED FOR CERTIFIED FAMILY HOMES?

No. This course is designed for healthcare providers and does not meet Certified Family Home training requirements.

CAN I USE THIS COURSE FOR CNA, EMT, OR OTHER HEALTHCARE PROGRAMS?

Yes. This course meets requirements for healthcare education programs such as CNA, EMT, nursing, or other clinical training pathways.

WHAT JOBS CAN THIS CERTIFICATION HELP ME QUALIFY FOR?

BLS certification is commonly required for healthcare positions such as nursing assistants, medical assistants, phlebotomists, EMTs, dental assistants, nurses, and other patient care roles. It may also be required for admission to healthcare education programs.
