Course Overview
This short hybrid course provides comprehensive training to equip Certified Family Home providers in Idaho with the essential skills and knowledge required for safe and effective medication administration. Through a combination of online learning and hands-on skills practice, students will become familiarized with best practices and state regulations and will leave class prepared to responsibly manage medications.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will be equipped to:
- Explain how to safely store and administer medication
- Recognize the signs and symptoms of negative responses to medications
- Understand the various routes in which medication can be administered (oral, nasal, topical, etc.)
Certification
Upon successful completion of the online portion of this course, students will be eligible to attend the required in-person class. During the mandatory in-person session, students must successfully complete a clinical skills demonstration and pass the required written examination.
Students who successfully pass both the clinical skills demonstration and the written examination will receive a certificate of completion within 5–7 business days after completing the class. This certificate allows them to obtain their credentials as a Certified Family Home provider.
Please note that if a resident’s needs exceed the curriculum in this training, the CFH provider/substitute caregiver may be required to complete and pass the Assistance with Medications – UAP Training course.

Hybrid Course Format
This course is offered in a hybrid format, which consists of a week-long online portion followed by a required in-person skills session.
All online coursework must be completed by 12:00am two days before your scheduled in-person class. The online portion is self-paced and includes six learning modules that cover the required course material. Each module ends with a quiz, and you must earn a score of 80% or higher on each quiz to successfully complete the online portion of the course and attend the in-person skills session.
After successfully completing the online learning modules and quizzes, students will attend a required 4-hour in-person skills session, where they will practice and demonstrate the basic manual skills needed to assist with medication. To successfully complete the course and earn certification, students must demonstrate competency in the clinical skills demonstration and pass the required written exam with a score or 80% or higher.
