Social Media Guidelines and Requests

CEI’s outdoor marquee shares information with the broader community. Messages should focus on events open to the public, opportunities available through CEI, and college announcements relevant to the community.

CEI’s social media channels showcase our students, programs, achievements, and campus life. They connect current, past, and future students with the college while highlighting CEI’s impact and partnerships with local businesses, community organizations, donors, and government leaders.

Submit a Social Media Request

How do I request social media support?

Submit a ticket through the IT Help Desk Portal and select Service Request > Marketing > Social Media Post Work Order.

Submit a complete ticket in advance, even if you have already discussed your idea with a team member. This keeps the details, expectations, and next steps in one place.

Include:

  • What you would like to promote or highlight.
  • Recommended audience.
  • Event date, time, and location, if applicable.
  • Requested promotion dates and any deadlines.
  • The support you are requesting, such as advance promotion or event coverage.
  • Relevant links, photos, and other materials.
  • A contact person who can answer questions.

Submit requests with at least seven business days notices to allow time for planning and content creation. Last-minute requests depend on staff availability and existing commitments.

Submitting a ticket does not guarantee coverage, attendance, or a specific type of content. The Marketing team will review your request and confirm what is possible.

How is social media content selected?

The Marketing team determines content, format, timing, and placement on CEI’s main social media channels based on the intended audience, college priorities, content opportunities, and available resources.

Requests help us understand your goals. The team uses its professional judgment and social media performance data to recommend how best to support them.

How is event coverage prioritized?

Academic and educational milestones receive the highest priority.

Student Life activities, club events, and other campus experiences also contribute to CEI’s story. Coverage depends on:

  • Relevance to our social media audiences.
  • Opportunities to showcase students, learning, and campus life.
  • Available staff time and competing responsibilities.
  • The timing and completeness of the request.

We aim to support a variety of campus activities, but we cannot attend or feature every event or participate in every planning meeting. Coverage is evaluated individually; previous coverage does not guarantee the same support for a future event.

What types of social media support are available?

Support may include:

  • Feed posts: Photos and updates shared on CEI’s main profile feeds.
  • Stories: Temporary updates useful for reminders, quick highlights, and event moments.
  • Reels: Short videos that require planning, filming, and editing.
  • Facebook events: Event listings that give people a central place to find details.
  • Event coverage: On-site content capture, when staffing and priorities allow.

These options serve different purposes. Confirmation of one type of support does not include the others unless they are specifically agreed upon. For example, sharing Stories does not automatically include producing a Reel.

Why does CEI post humor, trends, and campus personality content?

Social media supports recruitment, student recognition, community connection, and awareness of CEI’s programs. Event promotion is one part of that work.

Humor, trends, and campus personality content help people connect with the college and discover what makes CEI unique. The content calendar balances these goals alongside announcements and event promotion.

What if my request changes or I have questions?

Add changes, additional requests, or questions to the original ticket as soon as possible. New requests may affect the timeline or the support available and must be confirmed by the Marketing team.

Questions and feedback are welcome. Please bring concerns directly to the team through the ticket so we can review the request and clarify expectations together.

Can my club or program create its own social media page?

Club and program accounts are subject to separate guidelines and approval requirements.

Before creating a club social media page, contact Student Life to begin the review process.

Club accounts require a full-time faculty or staff advisor, approved branding, a dedicated club email address, and ongoing content oversight. Contact Student Life to review the full guidelines before starting an account.

How do I request campus TV or marquee promotion?

Campus TVs and marquees are separate communication channels with their own requirements. A social media request does not automatically include placement on these displays.

For campus TV requests, submit a ticket through the IT Help Desk Portal and select New Ticket > Marketing > Campus TV/Marquee. Include your graphic, requested start and end dates, and any special instructions.
