How to DROP a Course
- Complete the Drop Request Form and return it to ecp@cei.edu by the applicable deadline.
- Dropping a course by the deadline is the only way to have a course attempt removed from your college record. Dropping a course by the deadline results in a 100% tuition refund. Fee refund depends on course type and date of drop.
- The deadline to drop a course depends on the course type and location. Deadlines are found here.
- If you are taking a class directly from campus, fees are non-refundable after the first day of class. Dual credit courses taken at a high school or through IDLA do not have fees.
How to Withdraw a Course
- Complete the Withdrawal Request Form and return it to ecp@cei.edu by the applicable deadline.
- Requests to withdraw from CEI courses can be made after the drop deadline up until the withdrawal deadline for applicable course type. Deadlines are found here.
- Withdrawing from a course results in a W on your college transcript. If you are using Advanced Opportunities to pay your course tuition, a W is considered an unsuccessful attempt and has financial consequences.
- Tuition is non-refundable for withdrawn courses taken at a high school or through IDLA. Tuition may be partially refundable for courses taken directly from campus, dependent on the date of the request.
- Please refer to the Withdrawal Request Form for additional considerations and rules.

- Entering on-campus programs during senior year
- Maximizing state funding without wasting time
- Seeking mentorship and structure to prepare for life after high school
When can you join?
9th – 12th grade. Students seeking an associate degree during high school should join by 10th grade.

Things to Consider
- Not all college classes are applicable to every college degree. Meeting with a CEI advisor early and often is key to a successful transition.
- Students completing an associate degree during high school should prepare for a freshman experience that is different from their peers.
- College coursework is rigorous and time-consuming. Plan your week with more study time than you are used to.
- Grades matter! The college grades you earn are recorded on your high school and college transcript, and these grades can lead to scholarships and honors recognition.
- What comes next? Students who earn an associate degree should plan on declaring their bachelor’s degree early. If you’re not sure about your path, talking to your CEI advisor can help you build confidence in your next steps.
Motivated high school students can earn an associate degree or certificate from CEI while in high school. Seeking a degree or certificate requires advanced planning and students should meet with the CEI Academic Advisor as early as possible (preferably in 9th or 10th grade).
- Schedule an advising appointment (in-person or Zoom)
- Things to consider:
- Not all college classes are applicable to every college degree. It’s important that students meet with an advisor early and often to make sure their class choices align with long-term goals.
- Students that compete an associate degree in high school will begin college as a junior or advanced sophomore. Students who purse this goal should also prepare for a freshman experience that is different than their peers.
- Study-time. College coursework is rigorous and time consuming. Students heavily involved in extracurricular activities will need to schedule carefully to ensure they have time to excel in academics and personal development.
- Grades matter. The college grades you earn are recorded on your high school and college transcript. Good grades often lead to scholarships so keeping your grades up is important.
- What comes next? Student who earn an associate degree in high school should prepare to declare their bachelor degree early. If you’re not sure about your path, but you still want to get ahead, talking to your CEI academic advisor can help you feel confident about your next step.
